Progressive web apps are the next big thing.
They combine the best of mobile sites and native apps and are fast, secure and responsive.
They are also a nifty solution for those who want to access the web from their mobile in places where connectivity isn’t great. So it’s no surprise that one of the first progressive web apps was built by Flipkart, India’s largest ecommerce site, and has resulted in a 70 per cent increase in conversions.

Progressive web apps are being embraced by Google, alongside other big players including Mozilla and Opera. It’s a very exciting movement. As Remy Sharp puts it: “Even though native hacks will always be ahead, the web always gets there.”

So this month we invited Chris Mills, senior technical writer at Mozilla, to give us the low-down on the new technologies that make progressive web apps possible, and how to get started.

This issue also comes with three free months of InVision’s Professional plan, which enables you to build unlimited interactive prototypes. Flip to page 90 to redeem. There, you’ll also to find out how to use InVision’s new suite of plugins, Craft, to design with real data and save time while doing so.
